Laurice Rahme Works Her Magic

The founder of Bond No. 9 New York visits our flagship.

Everybody knows the story of the genie in the bottle, but what about the city in the bottle? Fitting one spirit into such a small space may be dismissed as fairy tale, but Laurice Rahme bottles a metropolis—all its character and attitude—as the founder of Bond No. 9 New York. Her scents capture the essence of NYC’s most vibrant neighborhoods (the High Line, Madison Square Park and Chelsea among them), but does she have a favorite? We asked her. How do you decide on a new neighborhood and its corresponding scent? Rahme: I only do neighborhoods I find interesting. If you really know the spirit of the neighborhood and the people who live there, it’s easy to do. What’s you favorite fragrance note? Rahme: Now…

How do you decide on a new neighborhood and its corresponding scent?
Rahme: I only do neighborhoods I find interesting. If you really know the
spirit of the neighborhood and the people who live there, it’s easy to do.

What’s you favorite fragrance note?
Rahme: Now it’s patchouli—it’s very warm, very attractive—and there
are many ways to work with it. But for spring, it’s gardenia.

What’s your favorite Bond No. 9 perfume?
Rahme: Coney Island. I love margaritas, and the first thing you smell
is Mexican lime and a tequila note. This fragrance has a party spirit.

Tell us about Saks New York Oud.
Rahme: People love it—especially in the winter. New York winters
are rough, and this fragrance is like a big cashmere sweater

What’s next for Bond No. 9?
Rahme: We’re doing a big new spring scent—Hudson Yards.

Aerin Lauder Looks Back…and Forward

The style maven introduces the AERIN Fragrance Collection at Saks New York.

For Aerin Lauder, granddaughter of Estée, daughter of Ronald and founder of her eponymous beauty and home label, childhood memories are surely sweet. But luckily for AERIN fans, they aren’t just nostalgia: they’re the jumping-off point for her debut fragrance collection. Aerin (with family in tow) celebrated the launch at Saks New York and told us about the moments behind the scents. Tell us about the memories that inspired these fragrances. Lauder: Lilac Path was inspired by a lilac bush at my house on Long Island, which was originally my grandmother’s. It’s beautiful…to me it defines spring and really captures that moment. Do you have a favorite fragrance from your collection? Lauder: I have to say, it’s Ikat Jasmine—I put it on every single morning…

Do you have a favorite fragrance from your collection?
Lauder: I have to say, it’s Ikat Jasmine—I put it on every single morning and then complement it with other scents for nighttime. It’s also inspired by my house, which is all blue and white because my grandmother loved those colors.

The holiday season is here—what are some of your favorite gift ideas?
Lauder: Candles are my go-to gifts—Jo Malone London and the AERIN collection are my favorites. Also, makeup bags. Women always want new ones!

What’s your easiest piece of style advice?
Lauder: Embrace what looks good on you. Just because something’s on-trend doesn’t mean you have to wear it. It’s really about reinforcing your natural beauty.

Its prettier-than-pretty confections—dreamt up by founders Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig—are a celebrity go-to, after all. That said, Georgina and Keren can do casual-cool, too—and prove it with their new contemporary line, Marchesa Voyage. They stopped by Saks New York on Thursday to launch the new collection and chat about their partnership, inspiration, and gym wear (spoiler: not gonna happen). Who is the Voyage woman? Chapman: She’s relaxed, she’s globally minded, and she likes something a little glamorous but easy in attitude. Craig: For the first collection, we were looking at Istanbul. So you’ll see references—Georgina’s wearing paisley, there are cheetah prints, there are…

How did you meet?
Chapman: We met in the [school] canteen. Keren and I have the same aesthetic. We’ve always liked the same things and we work well together. We each have our own areas and it just fits.

You’re known for glamorous red carpet dresses. Can either of you remember the last time you wore sweatpants?
Chapman: We don’t really do sweatpants. [Pointing to Keren’s cropped floral-print pants] These would be our version of sweatpants. It’s casual trousers for us!

Then what’s your idea of everyday chic?
Both: Voyage!

“Scandal” Hits Saks

Kerry Washington & Co. bring the ABC hit to our New York store

Though the show’s name implies all that is risqué, Scandal heroine Olivia Pope is study in sophistication—and her style savvy has garnered as much attention as the show’s twisty plotlines. I wanted to dress a strong woman.”

As part of the Saks x Scandal celebration, Washington and Paolo collaborated on the windows of our New York store. “We had a blast curating them,” says Washington. She was so enamored by the results that she dipped inside the windows to strike poses for fans during the party.

As Season 3 debuts, an expert source was willing to a reveal a style spoiler: “There will be a lot more gloves and a lot more capes,” says Paolo. It’s a fashion-forward development for the always-elegant Olivia, but forgive us for taking our own small bow: “It’s really hard to find clothes in L.A. that are appropriate for our show,” says Paolo, “so Saks is one of my go-to spots.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

Scandal premieres October 3 at 10/9c on ABC.
